Matt Penman, an illustrious visitor

Matt Penman, visita ilustre

Outstanding double bassist Matt Penman is performing for the first time in Buenos Aires and his visit will leave an imprint on the audience and his fellow musicians: he will be appearing with Fred Hersch’s trio and quintet (Thursday 3, 8.30pm at Teatro Alvear; Friday 4, 9pm at Teatro 25 de Mayo respectively) and later on conducting a clinic on his instrument, on Saturday 5 at 11am at Club Lounge.

Tickets for all these activities are already available for purchase online at www.festivales.gob.ar, or in person Monday through Saturday from 11am to 7pm, at Casa de la Cultura (Av. De Mayo 575) and Teatro 25 de Mayo (Av. Triunvirato 4444). Penman hails from New Zealand and has been living in New York since he completed his studies at the prestigious Berkelee College of Music on a scholarship. Throughout his career, he has shared stage and studio with the likes of Brad Mehldau, Madeleine Peiroux, John Scofield and Joshua Redman. He is a regular member of the SF Jazz Collective alongside Joe Lovano, Dave Douglas and Stefon Harris; they all share a special compositional experience: every year they present original pieces and arrangements of works of the greatest jazzmen.
