Nasheet Waits, pure jazz lineage

Nasheet Waits, de puro linaje jazzero

Drummer Nasheet Waits is coming to Buenos Aires for the first time to perform in trio and quintet with Fred Hersch (Thursday 3 at Teatro Presidente Alvear and Friday 4 at Teatro 25 de Mayo, at 8.30pm). He will also conduct a clinic on his instrumental style, on Saturday 5 at 11am at Café Vinilo (Gorriti 3780, Palermo). These are undoubtedly three opportunities to appreciate the drummer’s enormous talent and versatility. Tickets are already on sale at www.festivales.gob.ar or in person Monday through Saturday from 11am to 7pm at Casa de la Cultura (Av. De Mayo 575) and Teatro 25 de Mayo (Av. Triunvirato 4444).

Nasheet has been breathing music ever since he was in his mother’s womb: his father Frederick played with the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Sonny Rollins, Max Roach and Mc Tyner. Such a legacy was not wasted: Nasheet graduated with honours and, as well as his father’s, he was a disciple of Max Roach. He was a member of Andrew Hill’s and Fred Hersch’s bands and of Bandwagon, alongside Jason Moran and Tarus Mateen. Additionally, he recorded with Ron Carter, Steve Coleman, Joshua Redman and Jackie McLean, among others.
