The Orchestre National de Jazz, the icing on the cake

La Orquesta Nacional de Jazz, frutilla sobre el postre

Led by French bassist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Daniel Yvinec, the Orchestre National de Jazz arrives in Buenos Aires for the first time (quite an event), to present one of its acclaimed conceptual shows. On this occasion it will be “Broadway in Satin / Billie Holiday Revisited”, a tribute to the extraordinary singer right in the 50th anniversary of her death. This show will be closing the Buenos Aires Jazz.09, on Tuesday 8 at 9pm at Teatro Coliseo. Tickets for this remarkable show are already on sale from 10 Argentine pesos, at www.festivales.gob.ar, or in person, Monday through Saturday from 11am to 7pm at Casa de la Cultura (Av. De Mayo 575) and Teatro 25 de Mayo (Av. Triunvirato 4444).

The Orchestre National de Jazz was born in 1986, on the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture, and has ever since kept a distinctive dynamics of “creative lab”, with ten directors in alternation and several other special shows, all of which reflect original strategies and a constant attempt at combining styles and exploring new musical paths. In this sense, the word “transversality” acquires its true significance: at present, the Orchestra has three shows constantly playing in addition to the one dedicated to Billie Holiday. They are based on the film aesthetics of Hollywood pioneer Cecil B. DeMille (“Carmen”), and the work of English “progressive” musician Robert Wyatt, a member of the seminal Soft Machine (“Around Robert Wyatt”).
