Manuel de Falla Big Band's biography | Argentina
Biography
The City of Buenos Aires offers a degree program in Jazz at the Manuel de Falla
Conservatory of Music that is the pride and joy of all jazz enthusiasts. The course is
directed by pianist and composer Ernesto Jodos, one of today’s most prestigious jazz
musicians; it has been providing the local scene with a number of young, professional-
level instrumentalists.
Having established a strong collaboration, every year the Festival invites an outstanding
musician that combines artistic quality, a solid career and enthusiasm for teaching, to
work with the students. This year, the Manuel de Falla Big Band and its permanent
conductor, Valentín Reiners, receive John Hollenbeck – one of the key figures on
today’s New York jazz scene. Valentín Reiners is a guitarist, composer, arranger and
leader of various jazz bands. He has performed and collaborated with national and
international musicians, such as Charles Tolliver, Conrad Herwing, Ernesto Jodos, Walter Malosetti, Pepi Taveira, Juan Cruz de Urquiza, Fats Fernández, among others. For this edition of the BAJ, he will perform with the Manuel de Falla Conservatory’s Big
Band, with a repertoire by drummer John Hollenbeck.
