Biography

Guitarist Armando Alonso was born in Buenos Aires in 1958. He studied with Walter Malosetti and Manolo Juárez. He played in the Santa María Jazz Band and since the beginning of his career, he has played with Walter and Javier Malosetti, Alejandro Sanguinetti, Pepi Taveira, Hernán Merlo, Carlos Lastra and Norberto Minichillo, among others. He writes original music that blends the language of jazz with rhythms from the Rio de la Plata area. He is one of the founders of the Escuela de Música Popular de Avellaneda and he wrote the music for the film Vacarezza. At this year’s BAJ, he will perform Autopista, his latest release, with his trio completed by Rodrigo Cagnone (bass) and Agustín Barbieri (drums).
