THIS FRIDAY, OTHER TANGO
27 Fri 2010Tango in XXI century is felt, listened to and danced. There is an opportunity this Friday at 8.30 PM, at the Meeting Point’s stage: the quartet Otros Aires will be presenting their electronic view on contemporary tango, or the audiovisual experience of appreciating how a typical orchestra would sound like with electronic arrangements in 2010. Otros Aires is formed by Miguel Di Genova in voices, guitars and sequences, Diego Ramos in piano, Emmanuel Mayol in drums and percusión and Omar Massa in bandoneon.
HOMAGE TO DR. DAISAKYU IKEDA
26 Thu 2010This Thursday at 6.45 PM at the Meeting Point, the Minister of Culture of Buenos Aires City's Government will pay homage to Dr. Daisaku Ikeda. This renowned Japanese philosopher and interpreter of Buddhism, promoter of the peace, educator, poet and writer, is also founder of Min On Concert Association, a nonprofit organization devoted to the promotion of cultural exchange and the peace through music. In the ceremony, he will be given the Medalla del Bicentenario, as a recognition to the prolific work made over 40 years to disseminate tango’s culture in Japan. Mr. Hiroyasu Kobayashi, current president of Min On Concert Association will be receiving the prize on behalf of Daisaku Ikeda.
MORE PIAZZOLLA IN FILMS
26 Thu 2010The film series, programmed by Bafici in Tango Buenos Aires - based on films about the great work by Astor Piazzolla- presents this Thursday at 1 PM at the Meeting Point “Una viuda difícil" directed by Fernando Ayala. It is a Conrado Nalé Roxlo adapted screenplay, based on his own theater play, starred by Alfredo Alcón, Alba Arnova and Ricardo Castro Ríos, among others.
THE ROMANCE BETWEEN JAPAN AND TANGO
26 Thu 2010It is a usual topic in the conversation about the global impact of tango, to talk about the popularity that the 2x4 has in Japan. The numerous Japanese presence in Tango Buenos Aires as dancers as well as spectators testifies for it. The journalist and producer Gabriel Soria will talk about this and much more this Thursday at 6.15 PM at the Meeting Point when he presents his research material for the book to be “El tango en Japón”.
THURSDAY OF GOOD MUSIC
26 Thu 2010This Thursday, the musical programming of Tango Buenos Aires at the Meeting Point, offers two quality options. At 7.30 PM the quintet El Descarte (photo) will go on stage. Formed by Fernando Brugera, Santiago Polimeni, Pablo Guzmán, Adrián Lacruz and César Rago, this quintet seeks a personal aesthetic and sonority through a repertoire of new compositions and arrangements of classic tangos. Later on, at 8.30 PM, the orchestra Color Tango will cheer up the night’s milonga with a journey through its two decades of career.
RESCHEDULED SHOW OF JUANJO DOMINGUEZ
25 Wed 2010This Sunday 29 at 4 PM in the Meeting Point’s stage, the guitarist Juanjo Domínguez will perform accompanied by Mayo Lanzón and Beto Solas. Domínguez is one of the most virtuous tango guitarists with an impeccable four decades professional career accompanied by renowned artists such as Rubén Juarez, Alberto Morán and Roberto Goyeneche, among others. This time he will present his last album “Sin red”, in which Andrés Calamaro, the greatest Argentine rock star of the moment, participated as guest artist.
LET’S DANCE WITH LA OTRA VEREDA
25 Wed 2010The typical orchestra “La otra vereda” maintains the great tradition along the history of tango: great dancing hits, interpreted with remarkable skill and emotion. This Wednesday at 8.30 PM at the Meeting Point’s stage, this orchestra will host the night’s milonga with an infallible repertoire: “La cumparsita”, “Adiós Nonino”, “El último café” and “Trenzas” among others, are enough to imagine the impact and support they generate among expert tango dancers and also those that are starting to enjoy the genre.

SECOND DAY OF QUALIFYING ROUNDS
24 Tue 2010This Tuesday from 2.30 PM at La Trastienda (Balcarce 460 - San Telmo neighborhood) the qualifying rounds of the Dance World Cup’s second day will take place in the categories “Stage Tango” and “Salon Tango”. For the general public, the entrance is free and subject to the capacity of the facility. The qualifying rounds will continue on Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th, at the same time and place. Couples selected by the jury of experts will classify for the semifinals in both specialties, to be carried out on Saturday 28th at 11 AM (Salon Tango) and 6 PM (Stage Tango), at Teatro Coliseo.
