Gillespi

He was born in 1965 in Monte Grande, Buenos Aires province, and began treading the path of music through the guitar, later to switch to the trumpet. He studied harmony with Osvaldo Suárez and piano with Juan Carlos “Mono” Fontana, and Psychology at the Universidad de Buenos Aires. Gillespi made his debut in 1984 at the Mardel Jazz Festival in a duo with Kike Sanzol, and then got involved in projects like La Sonora del Plata, with which he recorded two albums. He has six albums under his name, featuring the participation of such remarkable musicians as Paul Wertico, Pat Metheny’s drummer, Pedro Aznar, Luis Salinas, Mono Fontana, Guillermo Vadalá, Ricardo Mollo, Javier Malosetti, Germán Daffunchio, Gustavo Giles and Patán Vidal, among others. He played in the legendary band Sumo (1987) and in Divididos (1987-1990), with which recorded 40 dibujos ahí en el piso, and was also a member of Las Pelotas, recording three albums. He has performed and/or recorded with myriad artists, including Raúl Barboza, Charly García, Kevin Johansen, Adrián Iaies, Walter and Javier Malosetti, Los Piojos, Javier Calamaro and Los Siete Delfines. He wrote music for film, TV and advertising; worthy of mention is his soundtrack for Diego Kaplan’s film Sabés nadar. His latest album Bell Ville was nominated for the Gardel awards for Best Jazz Album.
