Mariano Loiácono

Born in Cruz Alta, in the province of Córdoba, Mariano Loiácono studied at the Escuela de Música Contemporánea de Buenos Aires and with the renowned jazz trumpeter Juan Cruz de Urquiza. He has ever since been very active on the jazz scene, appearing at the most prestigious stages in the country with Juan Cruz de Urquiza, Richard Nant, Enrique Norris, Mariano Otero, J. Malosetti, Ernesto Jodos, Francisco Lo Vuolo, Ricardo Cavalli, Pepi Taveira and Pipi Piazzolla, among others.
He also shared the stage with Dave Holland and Dave Douglas Quintet and took part in clinics given by Wynton Marsalis and Chris Potter.
In 2006 he was awarded Best Jazz Newcomer by newspaper La Nación. He set up his own quintet playing original music and released his first album, I knew it... (BAU Records). As a sideman, he collaborated with Mariano Otero, Javier Malosetti and others. In 2008 he received the Clarín award for Best Jazz Newcomer and the web site www.elintruso.com. further praised his up-and-coming career. His quintet has been considered the best current jazz quintet by the local newspaper La Nación.
