Tango Jazz Club: Franzetti - Marconi - Bergalli - Aslán

In a co-production between the tango and jazz festivals of Buenos Aires, Argentine musicians Carlos Franzetti, Néstor Marconi, Gustavo Bergalli and Pablo Aslán where each commissioned to compose or arrange three works to be presented with this quartet. The concert on Thursday 20 August 2009 at the Tango Festival showcased the preview of the exclusive material, and the cycle will be completed in the Buenos Aires Jazz 2009 with the recording of the works, which will be later released in an album.
Settled in the United States, Franzetti and Aslán will be coming to Buenos Aires specially for the occasion. Throughout his extensive career, pianist and composer Franzetti did tango, jazz, chamber works and music for films, and, to name but one example, he was the artistic director of Roberto Goyeneche’s 1985 album: El Polaco por dentro. Double bassist Aslán devoted himself both to tango and jazz, and his musical thought found expression in the ensemble Avantango. In turn, the greatness of trumpeter Gustavo Bergalli can be summarised in his collaborations with Gato Barbieri’s bands and Michel Legrand’s orchestra, as well as his role as a founder of the Cuarteto de Jazz de Buenos Aires and Quinteplus. Bandoneon player Néstor Marconi is one of the most prominent figures of the so-called “generation of the seventies” of tango.
