Sergio Verdinelli

His versatility to perform the most varied genres led him to be involved in all sorts of musical projects, mainly related to rock, jazz and Argentine folklore.
The owner of a very personal style, Sergio began studying drums at the early age of 10. Later on he studied with Pepi Taveira, and took lessons in harmony and composition with Ernesto Jodos and Mono Fontana. At present, he is pursuing further studies in New York with drummer Tom Rainey and saxophonist Tony Malaby.
Since 2002 he has been leading his solo project, where he also composes and arranges. Featuring original compositions, his second album, Sicomoro (BURI, 2009), along with Primo (BURI, 2005), reflect his most intimate, personal quest, accompanied by the most outstanding figures of the Argentine jazz scene.
In the rock sphere, he has performed with greats of the genre, including Fito Páez, Illya Kuryaki and the Valderramas and Juan Carlos Baglietto, recording many albums and touring the Americas and Europe. Since 2005 he is a member of the band of Luis Alberto Spinetta, with whom he has recorded two albums. In December 2005 he was awarded the Clarín Award for Best Jazz Newcomer.
He has been teaching privately since 1993. He is a member of the faculty of the Escuela de Música Contemporánea de Buenos Aires and, since April 2006, he is head of the department of Jazz Studies at the Conservatorio de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.
He has performed and recorded with countless local jazz musicians, including Ernesto Jodos, Rodrigo Domínguez, Luis Nacht, Mariano Otero, Pepi Taveira, Guillermo Klein and Juan Carlos “Mono” Fontana.
Desde 2007 es honrado con el Endorsment de Baterías Gretsch y desde el año 2000 con el de los Platillos Istanbul.
