Rodrigo Domínguez's biography
One of the most active musicians of the Buenos Aires jazz scene, Rodrigo Domínguez studied and performed with the most prestigious artists of the city and, in private lessons, workshops and jam sessions in Argentina and the United States, with Wayne Shorter, Jerry Bergonzi, Chris Cheek, Chris Potter, Tony Malaby, Barry Altschul, Perico Sambeat, Wynton Marsalis, Herbie Hancock, Hermeto Pascoal, Marc Copland and Hal Crook, among others. He won a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Rodrigo is a founding member of the legendary Quinteto Urbano, and is currently involved in various projects with, among others, Mariano Otero, Juan Pablo Arredondo, Fernando Tarrés and Árida Conta, Guillermo Bazzola, Lucía Pulido and La Raza, Santiago Vázquez and La Grande. He also carries out his own projects, such as Tonal, with Ernesto Jodos on hammond B3 and Sergio Verdinelli on drums, and the Rodrigo Domínguez Cuarteto, with which he has just released Presencia (S’Music, 2009) and Soy Sauce (S’Music, 2008), where he plays music by Luis Alberto Spinetta.
He has toured different countries in many occasions, appearing with Argentine and international bands in festivals and clubs. He teaches at the school of popular music Leopoldo Marechal (in the province of Buenos Aires), at the Escuela de Música Contemporánea (Berklee Network) and privately.
