Leo Maslíah

The pianist and composer Leo Maslíah is one of the most eclectic and original musicians from Rio de la Plata. At the age of 20, he performed for the first time as an organ soloist interpreting a Händel’s concert. Although from 1978 he started to develop an intense activity as an author and interpreter of popular music, he never abandoned academic composition. The Uruguayan orchestras interpreted several of his symphonic pieces and his chamber pieces are part of the repertoire of many national and international interpreters. In June 2003, the Teatro Colón premiered his opera Maldoror, based on the book by Lautréamont. He has released more than 40 albums. He has also published an enormous amount of stories. Many of his theater plays were performed in Montevideo and Buenos Aires.
Maslíah will perform with his friends: the drummer Gustavo Etchenique (who has played with Daniel Viglietti, Eduardo Mateo, Fernando Cabrera, Canario Luna, Martín Buscaglia and Jaime Roos); the violoncello player Lucía Gatti (who has played and recorded with Samantha Navarro, Ana Prada and Maia Castro; composed music for theater and was part of La Mufa tango quintet); Nicolás Mora (who has played and recorded with Hugo and Osvaldo Fattoruso, Mariana Ingold, Daniel “Lobo” Lagarde, Urbano Moraes, Javier Malosetti, Mono Fontana and Bajo Fondo Tango Club. His solo album is La Conversa, recorded in the United States) and Juan Pablo di Leone
