Roxana Amed

Biography

Singer and composer Roxana Amed was born in Buenos Aires. She started her recording career as a soloist writing folk-jazz-tinged music, with lyrics drawing inspiration from her personal experiences. In 2001, she won a Martín Fierro for best composer. Her albums Limbo (RCA/Sony Music) and Entremundos (RCA/Sony Music 2006) were produced together with musician Pedro Aznar. In 2009, she recorded La voz más allá (RCA/Sony Music), a live DVD featuring acclaimed figures of the local scene. In 2010, she released Cinemateca finlandesa (Acqua Records). The album, recorded in duo with pianist Adrián Iaies, features music by Thelonious Monk and Cuchi Leguizamón, as well as original compositions. In April 2011, she released Inocencia (Acqua Records), a record including pieces of her own and Argentine folk classics, which she also produced. The album owes its sound to the collaboration of jazz musicians such as Guillermo Klein or Adrián Iaies and figures like Manolo Juárez and Pedro Aznar. This year, Amed returned to the jazz circuit with unusual concerts: music by Bill Evans, performed together with pianist Diego Schissi; music by American Frank Carlberg, with whom she performed in Buenos Aires; and a tribute to Billie Holiday together with pianist Manuel Ochoa in the jazz concert series organized by Revista Ñ and Yenny-El Ateneo bookstore.
