Escalandrum

Biography

With its original lineup, Escalandrum has been active for fourteen years, visited over twenty countries – with over 300 international performances – and released six albums. The band’s members are: Daniel “Pipi” Piazzolla (drums), Nicolás Guerschberg (piano), Mariano Sivori (double bass), Gustavo Musso (alto and soprano sax), Damián Fogiel (tenor sax) and Martín Pantyrer (bass clarinet and baritone sax). Escalandrum was awarded Breakthrough Band of 2002 by Clarín and La Nación newspapers, and included in Fundación Konex’s top hundred artists of Argentine popular music of the last decade, in 2005. In 2008, the ensemble opened for Dave Holland at his concert in Argentina. In 2010, they toured internationally and were invited to play at Sao Paulo’s Bridgestone Music Festival in Brazil. This year, their album Piazzolla Plays Piazzolla received three nominations for the Premios Gardel (Album of the Year, Best Jazz Album and Production of the Year). They have just returned from a tour in Europe, Israel, Mexico (special guest at the Festival Cervantino) and New York, where, on the occasion of the Piazzolla Year, the band conducted master classes and performed a concert at Birdland with Ute Lemper and Paquito D’Rivera. At this year’s BAJ, Escalandrum will perform new original compositions from their upcoming album, Vértigo.
