Martín Alvarado y Quinteto Otra Vez

The impact and development of tango in Finland is an amazing phenomenon: the genre settled in this country a century ago to write a history of its own that brings together well known figures and created a different style. Now comes the time to present one of the groups that stand out in the Scandinavian musical scene: the Quintet Otra Vez. Formed in 1999, this group is integrated by Finish performers that combine Piazzolla´s tradition with Nordic jazz and classical music. Two years ago, they started a new stage in their career by incorporating the Argentine singer Martin Alvarado to their presentations. Together, they carried out numerous tours and recorded the album Tango norte, tango sur, which they present at this Festival. The repertoire combines, then, Buenos Aires classics with their own work and works from other Finish interpreters, all arranged especially by them. The quintet Otra Vez is formed by Antti Heermann (violin), Henrik Sandås (concertina), Markus Elgland (guitar), Matti Laukkanen (piano) and Tony Elgland (double bass), accompanied by Martín Alvarado (voice).
