Giovanna - La Yunta's biography

Giovanna - La Yunta

Giovanna Fachinelli starts singing in 1997, same year in which she receives the Iris Award for best new tango artist by the Montevideo newspaper El País. In 1998 she moves to the United States. She participated in the Lisbon World Expo 98; performed in Miami, New York, Chicago, Coimbra, Viseu, Guarda, Vienna, Cordoba, Buenos Aires and Recife. Ruben Juarez, during her visits to Uruguay, was pleased to call herself Giovanna´s artistic godfather. She will perform accompanied by Álvaro Hagopian (piano), Cono Castro (double bass) and Leonel Gasso (concertina).
As a result of the tango workshops at the Uruguayan Musicians Association (AUDEM), and by initiative of Sergio Astengo, the trio La Yunta is formed. In mid-2006 its current formation is consolidated: Betina Martínez (piano), Sergio Astengo (concertina) and Gabriel Rodríguez (double bass). La Yunta´s repertoire goes through various stages of the history of tango, from Guardia Vieja to Piazzolla. In 2010, the trio releases its first album entitled Potrillo as a tribute to the master César Zagnoli.
