ESCALANDRUM PRESENTA PIAZZOLLA PLAYS PIAZZOLLA

In the 2009 edition of the Festival, the show Astor por Escalandrum served as the first approach to Piazolla’s music by the band of his grandson, drummer Daniel “Pipi” Piazzolla. In 2011, Escalandrum doubled the tribute with Piazzola plays Piazzolla, an album that has been available in stores for a few months now and reaped favorable reviews. With a 12-year history, 6 albums under its belt and over 20 countries visited, the ensemble composed of Nicolás Guerschberg (piano), Mariano Sívori (double bass), Damián Fogiel (tenor sax), Martín Pantyrer (bass clarinet) and Gustavo Musso (alto and soprano sax) combines its usual playing of jazz with different urban and folk influences to deliver a delicate, respectful version—specially oriented to an aesthetic search that would have made Piazolla proud—of the music by the great bandoneon player and composer.
