ATILIO STAMPONE QUINTETO, CON LUIS FILIPELLI's biography
Maestro Atilio Stampone has been directing orchestras and giving tango an ever-refreshing perspective for almost 50 years. After making his debut at his 15 years of age in the orchestra of Roberto Dimas, his career as a pianist really took off in 1946, with the typical orchestra of Astor Piazzolla. He got to direct his own ensemble together with Leopoldo Federico in 1952 and was the bandleader after the bandoneon player’s departure. In 1955, Piazzolla called him again to play in the revolutionary Octeto Buenos Aires; and in 1964 he co-founded the mythical tango club Caño 14. As an active 85-year-old, the maestro of generations and author of songs like “Afiches” and “Mi amigo Cholo” will perform at the Festival, leading a quintet also including Carlos Buono (bandoneon), Néstor Ferrer (double bass), Matías Grande (violin), Miguel Ángel Irazu (electric guitar), and Luis Filipelli (vocals).
