Juan Pablo Navarro presenta Contratangos

For almost a century, the double bass has been a vital presence in tango. Since 1920, the instrument has come to stay in the genre, keeping the beat of the two-four time signature on its strings. The approach of Juan Pablo Navarro, a bassist from the province of Bs. As., in his first solo material, Contratangos, is an example of how the double bass can still contribute to the renovation of the genre. In the album, which only includes original pieces ranging from tango, jazz to contemporary music, Navarro combined forces with musicians like Néstor Marconi (bandoneon), Juan Carlos Cirigliano, Nicolás Guerschberg, Abel Rogantini, Diego Schissi, Cristian Zárate, Juan Esteban Cuacci (pianos), and Esteban Falabella (guitar). The resulting songs, written by creative duos, can be enjoyed in this concert presentation.

TANGOCONTEMPO

Created at the beginning of 2009, the TangoContempo concert series has become an outlet for musicians to play and spread their new compositions. With the artistic direction of guitarist Esteban Falabella, concerts are held weekly at Café Vinilo which reflect the vitality of tango as music of this century: over 87 groups and soloists have already performed. In this edition, TangoContempo actively participates with a wide array of concerts including the performance by the String Orchestra of Elvino Vardaro. www.tangocontempo.com
