Porteña Jazz Band
This group was set up in 1960 and has since established a career of over four decades as the foremost jazz band in South America, cultivating the style of such groups as Duke Ellington’s, Fletcher Henderson’s and Count Basie’s, among others.
Throughout all these years they have appeared in innumerable places in Argentina and other countries in the American continent and Europe, released twelve albums and received many worthy awards, especially in Germany, where they were granted the “Recording of the Year” recognition in 1976, 1979, 1989 and 1996 by the specialised magazine Der Jazzfreund. In 1985, the Konex Foundation honoured them as one of the most important bands of the Argentine popular music.
