A RELIGION WITHOUT ATHEISTS

UNA RELIGION SIN ATEOS

“A film about faith and football.” This sentence defines the Danish documentary Football is God by Ole Bendtzen, based in the passion unleashed by Boca in Argentina and more specifically in its temple, the famous stadium La Bombonera. Centered in three characters, a regular match-goer who is capable of crying over the memory of a goal scored in the seventies, a lady who gives out candy treats to the fans, and a follower of the Maradonian Church, Football… is an interesting look at the Argentine phenomenon, which is sometimes unexplainable to th e eyes of foreigners. The scheduled screenings are as follows: Thursday 7, 5.30 pm and Saturday 9, 10.15 pm at Hoyts 5, and Thursday 14, 9.45 pm at Alianza Francesa.

This is one of the treasures featured in “This Sporting Life,” a new sub-section of this year’s BAFICI, which will also screen among other films: Ivory Tower, starring Canadian cult musicians Peaches and Gonzales; Kick in Irán, about the life and training of an Iranian taekwondo champion; and the Argentine documentary Montando al zorro, about the mythical figure of a Criollo horse.
