ITALY-BRAZIL, QUITE A CLASSIC

ITALIA-BRASIL, TODO UN CLÁSICO

This is not about soccer, but about something greater: both countries have a close, always fertile cultural exchange with Argentina. At the Festival, the performances by the Italian company Motus and the Brazilian Sao Paulo Companhia de Dança highlight the international program and are definitely must-sees for Saturday 24 and Sunday 25: the Brazilians will stage the choreographic series Gnawa, Sechs Tänze and Prélude à l’aprés-midi d’un faune at the Teatro Presidente Alvear; and the Italians, "Alexis, una tragedia greca" at the Teatro Regio. Tickets remain for all the shows, at very affordable prices (starting at 30 pesos), and can be purchased on this website or in person at the Teatro San Martín (Corrientes 1530) – every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. – and at La Casa de la Cultura (Av. de Mayo 575) – from Monday to Friday, same hours.

The play brought by the Italian company Motus is based on a particular political event – the death of a young Greek protester at the hands of the police – which interweaves withAntigone, making up a visual collage out of documentary material recorded in Athens on the days following said event, with dialogues written by Bertolt Brecht. This is an attempt at adapting a classical tragedy to the social-political unrest of the 21st century. On the other hand, the live choreography by the São Paulo Companhia de Dança will display the work and talent of Nacho Duato and Jiri Kylián, two of the world’s major choreographers.
