WITH HER OWN BRILLIANCE

CON BRILLO PROPIO

Estrella Morente is much more than just the daughter of the great Enrique, the flamenco singer who opened new ways for the genre with his rock-fused masterpiece Omega. She is also much more than simply the voice lent to Penélope Cruz in a memorable scene of Pedro Almodovar’s film Volver. The Festival offers an opportunity to witness it first hand: on Monday, September 26, she will perform at the Teatro Coliseo, and the best news is that there are tickets available, starting at 30 pesos. They can be purchased on this website or in person, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., at Casa de la Cultura (Av. de Mayo 575, from Monday to Friday) and at the Teatro San Martín (Corrientes 1530, every day).

Estrella Morente was born 30 years ago in Granada into a family of flamenco artists, not only because of her father: her mother is the acclaimed flamenco dancer Aurora Carbonell. At her 16 years of age, she made her debut at the presentation ceremony of the Alpine Skiing Championships in Sierra Nevada (Granada). In 2000, she released her first album, Mi cante y un poema. At the end of 2001, she followed up with Calle del Aire, an eclectic recording widely acclaimed for its unorthodox and fresh approach. In May 2006, after five years of album silence, she presented Mujeres, a collection of songs inspired by women dear to her heart. After the film Volver, she has recently participated in the films by Fernando Trueba, Chico & Rita, and by Carlos Saura, Flamenco Flamenco. One of today’s finest flamenco voices, she will make her debut in Buenos Aires on Monday, September 26. Don’t miss it.
