THEATER ACCORDING TO ANGÉLICA LIDDELL

EL TEATRO SEGÚN ANGÉLICA LIDDELL

The Catalonian actress and dramatist, who will perform at the festival with her poignant solo show Yo no soy bonita, will give an open talk titled “Angélica Liddell and Her Conception of Theater,” on Monday, September 26 at 11 a.m. at the Casa de la Cultura. The conversation will be moderated by Argentine actor and director Matías Umpierrez, the attendees will be allowed to make questions, and admission is free (limited to room capacity). Yo no soy bonita will be staged on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 at the Sala Casacuberta of the Teatro San Martín. There are tickets available which can be purchased on this website or in person, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the Casa de la Cultura (Av. de Mayo 575, from Monday to Friday) and the Teatro San Martín (Corrientes 1530, every day).

“I don’t go through life handing out punches or cutting my veins, but I try to work with the person that stays home alone when she has closed the door to her room, which I think is the material one should work with. And that person is very different from the one that is part of a social contract... I am a sociopath under control. Appearances do not always reflect what is truly inside. I try to work with the worst part of me, that which stays home alone, has terrible nights and dark thoughts,” she expressed in an interview published, this year, in the culture section of the Spanish newspaper El Mundo.

Born in Figueres (Girona, Catalonia) and educated at a convent school, Liddell built a brilliant, transgressive, blooming career, earning international renown – her works were translated into French, English, German, Russian and Portuguese – and countless awards, including the Premio de dramaturgia innovadora Casa de América 2003, the SGAE 2004 and the Premio Valle Inclán 2007.
