SEVEN DAYS BEFORE KICK-OFF

A SIETE DÍAS DEL COMIENZO

There’s only a week to go before the beginning of the Festival. On that day, Saturday 24, there will be four world-class theater and dance performances at three theaters of the Complejo Teatral de Buenos Aires: from Italy, the company Motus will present Alexis. Una tragedia greca at the Teatro Regio; from Brazil, the São Paulo Companhia de Dança will perform dances choreographed by first-class creators at the Teatro Presidente Alvear; and from Spain, the irreverent Angélica Liddell will bring her one-woman show Yo no soy bonita to the stage of the Sala Casacuberta at the Teatro San Martín. The three shows will be staged again on Sunday 25: there are tickets available, on sale on this website or at the Teatro San Martín today from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and from Monday at the Casa de la Cultura (same hours).

Alexis. Una tragedia greca is based on a political murder that shook Greece in 2008 and combines documentary material in a variety of formats (audio, video, photo) with the dialogues from Antigone. The prestigious São Paulo Companhia de Dança will perform the choreographic series “Gnawa”, “Sechs Tänze” and “Prélude à l’aprés-midi d’un faune” – two of the authors, Nacho Duato and Jiri Kylián, are considered to be among the world’s best choreographers nowadays. And Yo no soy bonita is a radical, passionate gender monologue in which Liddell states that she uses “poetic violence to defend myself from real violence.”
