ACTION IN THE FACE OF CRISIS

FRENTE A LA CRISIS, ACCIÓN

The directors of Alexis, una tragedia greca, Daniela Nicolò and Enrico Casagrande, say they are happy to be in Buenos Aires waiting for their debut at the Festival, on Saturday 24 at 8 p.m. at Teatro Regio (Av. Córdoba 6056, a few yards away from Dorrego avenue). The play will be performed again by the Italian group Motus on Sunday 25, same time. There are tickets available for both nights, at very convenient prices (starting at 30 pesos), and they can be purchased on this website or in person at Casa de la Cultura (Av. de Mayo 575) and Teatro San Martín (Av. Corrientes 1530), from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. “We are very excited to present our work to the Buenos Aires audience: the play deals with universal themes that are relevant both in Europe and South America,” they stated. “We expect a positive response. The last world pronounced in the play is “do”, and it is because we believe that, as artists, we can make the audience reflect, raise their awareness and rethink new political, cultural and economic terms for our societies.”

The event that triggers this stage play is the death of Alexandros Andreas Grigoropoulos (Alexis), a young 15-year-old protester murdered by the Greek police during a demonstration in December 2008. From that starting point, the text combines documentary records of the incident with dialogues from Bertolt Brecht’s Antigone. “The topic of crisis is currently very strong in Europe, and here in South America is already well known. Our reflection is that artists learn from these contexts: we can act, create and raise new ideas,” they concluded.
