THE CHILEAN CASE

EL CASO CHILENO

La amante fascista by Chilean author Alejandro Moreno, one of Latin America’s major contemporary playwrights, will staged today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday) at 8 p.m., at Teatro Margarita Xirgu in San Telmo (Chacabuco 875). The play stars Paulina Urrutia, Andrés Reyes and Horacio Valdés, and is directed by Víctor Carrasco. There are tickets available for the two nights, at affordable prices (starting at 30 pesos), which can be purchased on this website or in person at Teatro San Martín (Av. Corrientes 1530), from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The sick parallel relationship between the wife of a military man and the dictator in office, set in the oppressive everyday reality of a South American country resembling Pinochet’s Chile very much, is developed from the woman’s standpoint. Played by acclaimed actress Urrutia, former culture minister during Michelle Bachelet’s administration, Mrs. Iris Cuevas waits for the arrival of her lover, to whom she is attracted for his aura of power as well as the physical force characteristic of dictatorial oppression.
