From her early days as a member of a music family –her father is Bernardo Baraj, renowned saxophonist of Argentinian jazz and rock– she took part in several projects revolving around rock, pop and popular music. Later on she released three albums as a solist: Lumbre (2002), Deslumbre (2005) and Margarita y Azucena (2007). Mariana performed at the main World Music festivals, including Rudolstadt (Germany), Mercado Cultural (Salvador, Brazil) and Auditor (Barcelona). In 2005 she was granted a ‘Clarín award’ for best folklore newcomer. Two years later she was selected a protégé within the framework of the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Iniciative, thus meeting and sharing music with Youssou N’Dour in 2008.
