Egle Martin

Singer, dancer and integral artist, Egle Martin boasts a career of over 50 years in the Argentinian cultural scene. She took ballet lessons at the Colon Theatre at the age of 7, and was chosen to take part in the movie Esta es mi Vida alongside Manuel de Molina, at 14. In 1956 she took a bold step when joining a variety show and became the first showgirl to dance, sing and compose her choreographies, stagings, scenery and wardrobe. In those years she met Dizzy Gillespie, who introduced her to the jazz world.

In the 60s she struck relationships with Brazilian musicians and thus contributed to “importing” Bossa Nova into Buenos Aires; among other things, she made possible Vinicius de Moraes’s visit. Years later, she would enjoy equal privileges with African roots and dancing. In every case she has been an advocate and an activist, and has been responsible for the introduction of many artists.

She gave master classes and courses for music teachers. In recognition of his brilliant career, in 2003 Egle was awarded “Master of Argentinian Art and Culture” by the Secretariat of Culture and the National Institute of Latin American Anthropology and Thought. Pedro Aznar and Luis Salinas have in several opportunities emphasised the influence of Egle’s teachings on their careers.
