Born in 1959 in Montevideo, Uruguay, he arrived in Buenos Aires at the age of 20 and right away began playing with Argentinian musicians like Horacio Fontova, Luis Salinas, the legendary Osvaldo and Hugo Fattoruso. Maza recorded works with Jairo, Liliana Herrero, Raúl Carnota, Edelmiro Molinari and “el Luis Salinas”, among others, and released three albums, Música Destilada, Vamo’ Arriba and Al Contado. He played the bass for Brazilian Djavan and participated in jam sessions alongside Ray Barreto, Simon Phillips, Danilo Pérez, Horacio “El Negro” Hernández, Nicholas Payton and Raúl Barboza.
