Biography

Ana Garat y Pilar Beamonte's biography

It’s been a long time since these two artists have joined their talents for creation, and this union has yielded works such as El Hombre que camina, YoYanoKepo, Almorzando con Ana Garat, Diva and Dúo para ella sola, among others. These creations, subsidised by Prodanza, Fundación Antorchas or the National Fund for the Arts, have been presented at the Teatro Colón Experimentation Centre, the Buenos Aires Contemporary Dance Festival and the VII Buenos Aires International Festival in 2009. In London they were commissioned to create Thank You, This Is Awful for the opening of the Greenwich and Docklands International Festival.
Ana Garat graduated from the Dance Workshop of the Teatro San Martín. She was a dancer of the Contemporary Ballet of Teatro San Martín, under the direction of Oscar Araiz. Between 1991 and 2000 she was also a member of the group Nucleodanza, directed by Margarita Bali and Susana Tambutti, where she participated as a solo dancer and assistant choreographer. In 1996 she appeared at the American Dance Festival. In 2000 she travelled to New York on a scholarship of the Fundación Antorchas to pursue further studies with the Trisha Brown Dance Company.
Pilar Beamonte was born in Buenos Aires in 1972. She lived in New York, working as a dancer and wardrobe artist for numerous independent companies. In 2000 she graduated from the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance on a scholarship granted by that school, and later travelled to London to carry on her studies at the Laban Centre London, where she got a Professional Diploma in Dance Studies. As a costume designer she worked for the Martha Graham Dance Company and Ensemble, as well as many other companies in New York and London.
In Buenos Aires she designed and produced the wardrobe for Gabriela Prado’s Andén 6 and Episodios llanos, Analía Thiele’s Las infantas, and Diana Rogovsky’s Nuda, among many others.
