MANUEL OCHOA

He was born in the city of La Plata in 1979. A student of Ernesto Jodos, Quique Roca and Emma Botas, he graduated from the Escuela de Música Contemporánea and pursued further studies at the Berklee College of Music on a scholarship. In New York he took lessons with Sophia Rosoff, Fred Hersch and Bruce Barth and attended master classes conducted by the legendary Barry Harris. He has shared the stage and the studio with Fats Fernández, Javier and Walter Malosetti, Pepi Taveira, Ligia Piro and others. He released two albums under his name, Rudias and Manare, (MDR Records), both of which struck a chord in the hearts of audience and press alike. He was nominated for the Clarín awards in 2007 and in 2008 he received an honour from the Universidad Nacional de La Plata for his outstanding career. At present he is at work on an album paying tribute to the brilliant pianist Oscar Peterson.
