Paula Shocrón

The pianist and composer Paula Shocron was born in Rosario in 1980. Her first record was La voz que te lleva, a soloist piano that includes Monk’s revisions. Then, Percepciones (in quartet with Marcelo Gutfraind) and Urbes came along. Her fourth record, Homenaje dedicated to the music of Andrew Hill and El enigma, a duet along with the saxophonist Pablo Puntoriero, with whom she opened the last presentation that the pianist McCoy Tyner made in Buenos Aires. Nowadays, Paula leads her works along with an orchestra made up of twelve musicians: Luis Nacht (flute and soprano sax), Indrid Feniger (alto), Juan Méndez (tenor), Pablo Pecsi (bass clarinet), Fernando Isaia (trumpet), Gabriel Sainz (flughel), Joaquin de Francisco and Francisco Salgado (trombone), Ezequiel Dutil (double-bass), Luciano Ruggeri (drums), and Marcelo Gutfraind (guitar and composition). Shocron explains the orchestral project: “It is the attempt of putting different aspects of jazz together, not only compositions and arrangements, but also the textures and diversity of voices, always considering improvisation as a vital element. The purpose of this project is also to pay a tribute to those musicians that made history with their bands and to give them back, in some way, everything that is learnt from them.”
