Throughout the years, film and television have served as a valuable bridge between musicians from around the world and jazz enthusiasts who can’t see them in concert. Apart from covering just about any distance, this audiovisual connection enables us to discover nearby artists that we didn’t know. Something about all this runs through the five films featured by the Festival in free screenings at the Microcine of the Centro Cultural Recoleta. The aim, like always, is to complete and widen the range of musical expressions showcased at the Festival, as well as to become more familiar with certain icons in the history of jazz and its environs.

Horacio Sbaraglia is, without a doubt, the photographer with the closest and strongest ties to the Buenos Aires jazz scene. A great deal of last decade’s album artworks feature his photographs. Through his rich archive of images, it is possible to reconstruct a comprehensive picture of the intense activity that the genre has experienced over the last years, at both small clubs and large theaters. Always struggling with low light and tight corners, but relying on his great sensibility and unconditional love for jazz, Horacio really has an eye for music – a jazz eye.
