CINEMA & JAZZ

This year, the films in this section depict different moments in the evolution of African-American music in its cradle – the United States. From the times when a musician could make a living playing on the streets or in a bar, if he was lucky, only to return to the factory when hard times came (Louie Bluie); to the heyday of swing, whose stars had a brief stint in Hollywood (Cabin in the Sky); from the battle for cultural and racial recognition that could bring trouble to a first-class performer (Lady Day: The Many Faces of Billie Holiday); to explorers who sought new sounds for a new audience (Charles Mingus Live at Montreux); to the present, when jazz musicians can pursue a college education and have access to the most exclusive venues without losing their way (Keith Jarrett: The Art of Improvisation). A long road to be traveled in five days: this is the plan. We would like to thank Music Brokers Argentina for collaborating on the programming of this series.
