ORQUESTA ESCUELA EMILIO BALCARCE, CON VÍCTOR LAVALLÉN

The Orquesta Escuela de Tango Emilio Balcarce was the platform for new generations to get to know the forms and secrets of major orchestral styles of the 1940s and 50s, by meeting the protagonists of this history. During its 11-year existence, over 200 musicians have learned under the tutelage of great teachers and with the guidance of the remarkable Emilio Balcarce, director of the orchestra until 2006. Between 2007 and 2010, bandoneon player Néstor Marconi took over that role.
The Festival’s concert will serve as the official presentation of the new orchestra director: bandoneon player Víctor Lavallén. A member of Osvaldo Pugliese’s orchestra, he made famous arrangements of “Gallo ciego,” “Bandoneón arrabalero” and “Lorenzo” and was also part of that cast of musicians that made up the Sexteto Tango.

TANGOCONTEMPO

Created at the beginning of 2009, the TangoContempo concert series has become an outlet for musicians to play and spread their new compositions. With the artistic direction of guitarist Esteban Falabella, concerts are held weekly at Café Vinilo which reflect the vitality of tango as music of this century: over 87 groups and soloists have already performed. In this edition, TangoContempo actively participates with a wide array of concerts including the performance by the String Orchestra of Elvino Vardaro. www.tangocontempo.com
