SEGUNDA RONDA CLASIFICATORIA DE “TANGO SALON” Y MUCHO MÁS

Today, starting at 2 p.m., the Salon Tango Qualifying Rounds continue at the Centro de Exposiciones, featuring couples from all around the world looking for a place in the semifinals of the Dance World Cup in this category. Please be reminded that admission is free, on a first-come, first-served basis until the capacity of the venue is reached. Apart from the competition, there will be many other attractions and activities running at the main venue of Tango Buenos Aires Festival and World Cup, such as the permanent exhibition Astor Piazzolla, íntimo y universal and the Product Fair, showcasing a variety of products related to our tango culture that today, thanks to the lure of the music and the dance, have become universally recognized as hallmarks of the city of Buenos Aires. Additionally, free dance lessons (requiring advance registration) will be held at 3.45, 5 and 8.45 p.m., conducted by Dance World Cup champions of previous years and legendary couples on the city’s milonga circuit. Also at the Centro de Exposiciones, another of the meetings for reflection and discussion coordinated by specialized journalist Norberto Chab will take place at 7: today, Tuesday, the session will revolve around the question Eduardo Arolas, 120 years after his birth. Who is interested in Arolas today? and will feature specialists Ema Cibotti, Ricardo García Blaya, Enrique Binda and Leandro Ragusa.

EL TEATRO REGIO ABRE SUS PUERTAS

The historical Teatro Regio, located in a key spot of the neighborhood of Chacarita (a few feet away from the corner of Córdoba and Dorrego), will serve as a venue for a series of great free concerts (admission is on a first-come, first-served basis until the capacity of the venue is reached) today, Tuesday. All of them feature young artists who bring a blast of fresh air to Buenos Aires’s ancestral tango culture and will be able to show their quality and passion in the 2012 edition of TANGO BUENOS AIRES FESTIVAL and WORLD CUP. Today, the Orquesta Típica Sub-25, conducted by Pablo Agri and composed of remarkable performers of a new tango generation will take the stage at 8 p.m. Then, at 9 p.m., the duo of pianist Cristian Zárate and guitarist Leonardo Sanchez will perform their new album El día que nos quieran in addition to other classics of the genre.

PARA DISFRUTAR EN PARQUE CENTENARIO

The comfortable Anfiteatro del Parque Centenario, with a seating capacity of 1,620, easily accessible by foot (main entrance at Lillo and Leopoldo Marechal), is one of the new venues of the 2012 Tango Buenos Aires Festival and World Cup. On Monday, public holiday, there will be a varied array of top-notch, original music performances. First in the afternoon, singer Juan Vattuone will star with his family in an original show titled Entrá vos que estoy tentado (at 2). Then at 3, there will be a tango jam session led by Pablo Motta. At 4, online radio broadcaster RADIO CAFF will present the group Derrotas Cadenas and Mendoza-based ensemble Futre. This afternoon’s events will come to an end with a special production of the concert series Milonga en orsai, featuring performances by singers Julieta Laso and Juan Otero, dance exhibitions by Mariana Dragone-Pablo Inza and Dana Frigoli-Adrián Ferreyra, and a concert by Orquesta Rascasuelos.

HOY, ENTRADAS PARA LAS FINALES DEL MUNDIAL DE BAILE

Today (Monday, national holiday) starting at 11 a.m. tickets will be given away for free to attend the Salon Tango and Stage Tango finals at the Luna Park stadium on Monday 27 and Tuesday 28, respectively. Those who wish to attend can collect, at the Centro de Exposiciones’s box office, a maximum of 2 tickets per person until the seating capacity of ten thousand is reached. Apart from the world competition, the audience will also enjoy the concerts by Sexteto Mayor and dancers Gloria & Eduardo on Monday 27, and the show “Piazzolla Electrónico” featuring special guests and the joint performance of María Nieves with Dance World Cup champions of previous years on Tuesday 28.

AYER, DOMINGO A PLENO TANGO

Against a background of bright sun over Buenos Aires, yesterday the Centro de Exposiciones provided a great day of activities, which started early in the afternoon, drawing large crowds of locals and tourists of all ages, tango experts and newcomers, who enjoyed many great concerts and other attractions of TANGO BUENOS AIRES FESTIVAL AND WORLD CUP: the Product Fair, the exhibition dedicated to Astor Piazzolla, dance lessons and a specially tango-saturated environment. With the successful turnout and the quality of artists on stage – not only here, also at the rest of the venues (Usina del Arte, Anfiteatro del Parque Centenario) – quite a cultural event took place during this long weekend. And this was largely noted by today’s (Monday) media coverage (press, radio and television) reporting on the world’s major tango event.

ENTRADAS AGOTADAS PARA LAS FINALES DEL MUNDIAL DE BAILE

In just 3 hours, all 12 thousand free tickets to attend the Dance World Cup Finals at the Luna Park (on August 27 and 28)were given away today, Monday. From very early in the morning, despite the cloudy grey day, thousands of people went to the Centro de Exposiciones to get their tickets (photo). To make the wait more enjoyable, there were dancing couples and music inviting everyone to join in the dance, providing a great tango atmosphere in an iconic area of Buenos Aires.

DOMINGO DE ADRIANA VARELA Y MUCHAS EMOCIONES

Today at 9 p.m. at the Centro de Exposiciones, Adriana Varela will give an exclusive concert titled “Clásicos,” where she will perform songs by Cadícamo, Manzi, Expósito, Le Pera and Contursi as well as by contemporary authors such as Joaquín Sabina, Jaime Roos, Fito Páez and Gustavo Cordera. Also, Sunday has another emotionally evoking performance at 7: the great electronic tango band Tanghetto will celebrate an artistic career spanning ten years with a great concert. While enjoyable tango events are going on today, drawing large crowds, we inform that tomorrow, Monday 20, starting at 11 a.m. free tickets will be given away at the Centro de Exposiciones’s Box Office for the Salon and Stage Tango Dance World Cup Finals, which will be held at the Luna Park stadium on Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 respectively.

MORE ACOUSTIC SHOWS AT USINA DEL ARTE 19 August 2012

SIGUEN LOS ACÚSTICOS EN LA USINA DEL ARTE

The comfortable modern auditorium of the Usina del Arte, in the heart of La Boca, will be the venue for a series of fine, original acoustic concerts, in line with the style of Tango Buenos Aires Festival and World Cup. At 7.30, Usina del Arte’s closing concert will feature the collective performance of Orquesta Típica El Porvenir, made up of sixtyyoung players from the Children Orchestras of priority action areas. This initiative to promote social-cultural inclusion and encourage a love for music is part of the Children Orchestras Program of the Ministry of Education of the City Government, aimed at socially vulnerable children (in the neighborhoods of Flores, Villa Lugano and Retiro) and coordinated by Claudio Espector. Tickets to attend these two free shows will be available for pick-up at 5 p.m. at the venue’s Information Desk (a maximum of 2 tickets per person per show).

DÍA PIAZZOLLA EN EL CENTRO DE EXPOSICIONES

Today, Saturday, the main venue of Tango Buenos Aires Festival and World Cup will offer a rich and varied program of top-notch performances, featuring world-class musicians, singers and dancers who will pay tribute to Piazzolla in their own way and style. First at 3 p.m., legendary violinist Fernando Suárez Paz, leading an ensemble of virtuosos (Horacio Romo on the bandoneon, Nicolás Ledesma on the piano, Ricardo Lew on the guitar, Daniel Falasca on the double bass, with vocals by Beatriz Suárez Paz), will perform music by the bandoneonist. At 4 p.m., Alberto Tarantini and his quartet – composed of Juan Carlos Cirigliano (piano), Gabriel Santecchia (sax and clarinet), Arturo Puertas (double bass) and Javier Martínez (drums) – will perform jazz versions of works by Piazzolla included in his album De Gershwin a Piazzolla. Then at 5 p.m., singer Julia Zenko together with the ensemble conducted by pianist Matías López Gallese will pay homage to Astor by performing material from the albums María de Buenos Aires and Julia de Buenos Aires.

At such venue, artistic collective TangoContempowill present the special production “La Nueva Escena,” featuring the Orquesta de Cuerdas Elvino Vardaro together with Nicolás Guerschberg Sexteto, Quinteto El Descarte, Quasimodo Trío, Boero-Gallardo-Gómez, Quinteto Viceversa, Cristian Zárate and Leonardo Sánchez, in addition to an ensemble of true talents on the violin, viola and cello, conducted by guest maestros Néstor Marconi, Julio Pane, Pablo Agri and Leonardo Ferreyra.
