Joseph von Sternberg

Biography

He was born in 1894 in Vienna, Austria, and died in Los Angeles in 1969. He became interested in cinema while he worked cleaning and repairing movie prints. He made such legendary films as Underworld (1927) and The Blue Angel (1930). His last feature was Anatahan (1954), although Jet Pilot opened in 1957, seven years after its shooting.
