Synopsis
The first minutes of this observational documentary transmit a mystery that will slowly reveal itself as a group of men’s struggle against nature. The scarce information contrasts with the ongoing work of the locals. Soon enough, that struggle becomes a different one: not against nature, but against progress, technology, and oblivion. While the machines are tuned up, the dust is removed from the abandoned station, and the tracks are polished to shine like they once did through the grown grass, work begins in such an order that connects female, male, elderly, and infant hands under one moving common goal. Because it’s clear these people are not only recovering a means of transportations, but also a notion of Nation that was numbed until now. Trusting his own images as few new directors usually do, Juan Hendel makes us witnesses of a both technical and human triumph.
