Synopsis
From the ocean’s horizon to the waves’ foam; from the dripping stalactites to the white snow; from a river’s current to the tapping sound of the rain: water transforms all landscapes –but it’s also an axis orbited by practices that become life forms. This documentary by Marcelo Castillo deals with these natural and cultural landscapes that are run through by water, reinventing Ecuador’s territory through an eye that flows without overshadowing or stylizing the ground, and instead tries to find the rhythm that is marked by the use and circulation of water. Yakuaya’s cinematographic power is so strong that it doesn’t need words to reinforce the meaning of its water journey, because even in the more narrative scenes in which it follows several people, the audiovisual language is enough and there’s no need to verbally comment or complement the dimension opened by each one of these humid images.
