Synopsis
“This is not a (Spanish) film” could also be an accurate title for this movie in which Raya Martin searches for the essence of Spanish filmmaking. Some might say it is an incitement. Any plot synopsis would read “a lysergic journey that travels throughout Spain: from an apartment in Madrid to a museum of Bilbao city”. “Lysergic” is the only word we could find to describe its saturated images, toned in negative and or repeated in loops. In the end Raya Martin will provide us one of his usual interpretations through an epigraph: the image of a Philippine soldier who is teleported to Mexico City in the late 16th century. A film that in the end searches for its identity as a bastard daughter of Spanish colonialism. As such, it is not strange that it reinforces its nationality with the logo of the extinct Ministry of Culture, which is seen as bigger as never before in any other film.
