Synopsis
As the owner of legendary hotspots like The Limelight –located in al old Anglican church–, Tunnel, Palladium, and Club USA, Peter Gatien was the undisputed king of the 80’s New York City club scene. The eye-patch-sporting Ontario native built and oversaw an empire that counted tens of thousands of patrons per night and acted as a conduit for cultural movements that defined the image of an era in New York. Then, the legal and police offensive spearheaded by Mayor Giuliani against the nightlife led to Gatien’s deportation to Canada, and the dismantling of his glitzy kingdom. Featuring insider interviews with famous players in the golden age of clubbing as well as key informants in Gatien’s high-profile trial, Corben’s exuberant documentary covers the wild side and sheds light on a life on the fast lane. Not just the one of its protagonist, but also the one of New York, a city that is always transforming and reinventing itself.
