Synopsis
On her first incursion into found footage, Albertina Carri set up a “political porn-terrorist manifesto” with her sharp eye now turned into a chisel in order to wound, scratch, and sculpt on the found celluloid a field of conflict conceived as an overlapping game that mixes insightful interventions, punk humor, and other forms of a kind of anarchist-feminist revolt that has some similarities with the most radical post-porn movement. Pets is as if Laura Mulvey and Linda Williams’ feminist film theories would get into mutant action and disorganize the disciplinary ways that limit women’s views and bodies. As always, for Carri coherence in praxis is essential: this is a lonely, physical, “clandestine” work made with film porn from the 20’s up to the early 70’s (key dates of avant-garde explosions) and filming credits with a 19th century camera, which imprints it with a primitive spirit that triggers a deviated return to the origins of cinema –but in a libertine way, where every image regains the strength of a running train.
