Synopsis
While trying to raise money for his colossal film Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale, Wei considered making a small romantic comedy with unknown or inexperienced actors, and building up his name in the film industry. The plan worked almost too well: Cape No. 7 is still the greatest box office hit in the history of Taiwan’s film industry. What is the secret to its success? A tender story that swings between nostalgia and humor, past and present, traditional music and contemporary pop. It all starts when Aga’s career in the capital city’s music scene fails, so he returns to his coastal hometown Hangchun and gets a job at the post office. Some misplaced letters will reveal an unrequited love story that took place a couple of decades ago. Meanwhile, Aga will pursue a crazy attempt to return to music with a band formed by the town’s most colorful characters: a drummer/mechanic, a veteran mailman who trades his lute for a bass, and a merciful girl who plays the keyboard and insists in ending each song with an “amen”.
