Synopsis
If we consider Godard’s films as works of art that remain inevitably incomplete, how can one make a trailer clip –commissioned by the Viennale in 2008– of something that doesn’t exist yet, or rather doesn’t exist anymore? As it features the working tools instead of the final product, a trailer clip allows us to think that maybe, the finished film is merely an example of all that can be done with those materials, those tools. This way, breaking apart Battleship Potemkin and editing it together with a kiss from the collective film People on Sunday allows us to consider a particular stand: to believe cinema still exists –despite of, or thanks to, film festivals– as fragments and ruins that lie after the catastrophe.
