In Néstor Frenkel’s last documentaries, Super 8 would first appear in a lateral way (Construcción de una ciudad) and later as a central core (Amateur, which is in competition in this edition of Bafici). First it was Jorge Lorenz and his film about Stan Lee’s Hulk; then it was Jorge N. Martin with Winchester Martin, a cowboy drama with several remakes. This focus allows us to see two cases of homemade, amateur cinema that take two huge genres –superhero films and westerns– to an intimate place, close enough for us to inhabit them. A great benefit of family movies.
