Synopsis
The same long trains featured in James Benning’s RR while transporting goods from one end to the other of the United States, like metaphors for a heavy capitalist system based on endless consuming, now have a short counterpart (or complement) in this single fixed shot by one of the filmmakers who made Sweetgrass. Sheep, sheep, and more sheep cross a mountain river against a black dawn. An almost ecstatic exercise on contemplation, Hell Roaring Creek is the last trace of that world that seems run over by globalized trains transporting tons of disposable cars.
