Synopsis
Between March and September of 1973 the right and the left fight everywhere: streets, factories, courts, universities, Congress, and the media. Backed by Kissinger, Nixon’s administration continues to finance the main strikes (the ones affecting copper and transport industries) and promotes social chaos. Allende unsuccessfully tries to reach an agreement with the more center-oriented party –the Christian Democracy. The contradictions inside the left also increase the paralysis. The military start to conspire in Valparaiso. A wide portion of the middle class encourages “disobedience” and supports civil war. The military initiate a systematic raid of factories in search of fire arms (which they won’t find). Almost a million people parades before Allende on September 4th. Seven days later, Pinochet bombs the Government Palace while the President is inside.
