CULINARY VANGUARD

LA VANGUARDIA

Spanish cuisine is a world trademark, but in the 21st century, like never before, it has reaffirmed its presence by the hand of the main character of this documentary. Ferrán Adriá stars in El Bulli: Cooking in Progress, by German director Gereon Wetzel. The film shows the “kitchen”—literally—of probably the world’s most famous and exclusive restaurant, located on the shores of the Mediterranean, headed by the Catalan chef. This fascinating trip to the center of culinary vanguard will be featured on Saturday 9 at 7.00 pm at Arteplex Belgrano, Wednesday 13 at 8.45 pm at Hoyts 12 and Saturday 16 at 11.30 am at Cine Teatro 25 de Mayo. Tickets are available for purchase on www.festivales.gob.ar, or personally at Hoyts General Cinema Abasto and Casa de la Cultura, from 10.00 am to 8.00 pm.

"You have to be perfect machines," says Adriá to his cooks at some point. And later, he adds, "When you go to an innovative restaurant you’re looking for more than just eating, you’re looking for the creative emotion." El Bulli offers all of that and this precise and thorough documentary looks at the creative process of its scientist-chefs, the stress when preparing the season’s menu—which consists of no less than 45 dishes—and the chaos of the opening night.
