Mariano Otero

Born into a music family in Avellaneda, Buenos Aires, in 1976, Mariano Otero thus began to study electric bass at the age of 15, and then followed the double bass and the violoncello. He studied at music schools of his city and graduated from the Contemporary Music School, and also received a scholarship for the Berklee College of Music in Boston and the Amsterdam Conservatory of Music. Throughout his career he has released five albums: A Través (2003) D-Forma (2004), TRES (2006), CU4TRO (2007), Mariano Otero Quinteto en Vivo en Medio y Medio (2008). In the past years he has toured Argentina and other countries in the American continent and Europe alongside different Argentinian bands. In Buenos Aires, he was the opening act for Dave Holland and Dave Douglas, and performed the opening concert at the Buenos Aires Jazz and Other Music Styles Festival.

Otero took part in countless albums as a sessionist and was double bass player for Walter Malosetti’s trio for many years. He received a ‘Clarín award’ as Best Jazz Musician 2006, as well as several nominations.
